You're beginning to tune into your
body. Keep going . . .
- Your point & click arm . . .
- When you clicked the mouse just now, did you feel tension in your
arm or neck?
- Your neck . . .
- Turn your head, first to the right, then left. Can you move it
freely, without turning your shoulders at all?
- Your shoulders . . .
- Raise your arms above your head. Did you do it without tightening
your shoulders . . . without arching your back?
What does this mean? . . .
- Overworked, out of balance . . .
- If you cannot answer an unequivocal YES to these questions, your
body is working harder than necessary, and is probably out of balance.
- An important signal . . .
- If it's hard to move your head without also moving your shoulders,
your neck is too tight. That contributes to a feeling of overall tension or fatigue.
Now, experiment . . .
- Touch your head and neck . . .
- Feel the muscles in the back of your neck, just under the skull.
Are they tight or loose?
- Tense, then release . . .
- Tighten your neck muscles, then let them go. Which do you think
you were you doing a moment ago?
- Move your hand and arm . . .
- Before you move your hand back to the mouse, try not to tighten
your neck or arm. Can you do it?
